October 2014 – Issue 77

Dear customers and colleagues,

According to the Australian National Retailers Association, retail sales are on a positive upward trajectory and retailers are hopeful that the upturn will continue to meet the sectors expected 6% year-on-year growth by the end of the year. The latest ABS retail trade figures indicate that the trend estimate rose 0.2% in August 2014. This follows a rise of 0.2% in July 2014 and a rise of 0.2% in June 2014. Food retailing and cafe’s restaurants and takeaway lead the rise with both growing at 0.3% for August. Consumer confidence has picked up slightly in October rising 0.9% to 94.8 according to the latest Westpac consumer sentiment report.

Furthermore, as the Australian representative of Ebeltoft Group, we are set to release the latest trends and developments from the Global Retail Innovations 10 study. It covers how retailers have developed game-changing strategies to secure their place in the market through cross-channelling and customer involvement. I look forward to presenting these findings over the coming months.

Christmas is fast approaching and this is a great time to brush up on some retail skills and get motivated for the peak trading season.
