In it’s latest Global Powers of Retail report Deloitte has revealed that 15 per cent of the world’s top 250 retailers are now operating in Australia with local retailers facing strong global competition. In particular we note the Australian market presence of key companies such as H&M, Forever 21 and Uniqlo and the recent complete buyout of Country Road by Woolworths South Africa. The latest Citi Quantium report reveals high growth during the Christmas trading period with overall sales up 13.5% w/e the 28th of December which equates to $1.2 billion up on 2013. Total retail sales were up 5.6% with discretionary goods up 4.3%. Online retail goods increased by 15% and offline retail goods up by 13.4% compared to 2013.
