August 2014 – Issue 75

Brian Walker - ABC News BusinessDear customers and colleagues,

Through the year, Australian retail turnover rose 5.5 per cent in June 2014, seasonally adjusted, compared to June 2013. Australian Retailers Association (ARA) executive director, Russell Zimmerman, said that after an unseasonably warm autumn and post-Federal Budget drop in consumer confidence, retailers breathed a sigh of relief in June as the winter chill slowly started to settle in.

“Although retailers reported sales to be patchy, consumers finally started to stock up on their winter wardrobes and household items. This increased activity also coincided with the launch of the mid-year stocktake sales period, with many retailers launching major sales mid-June.” said Zimmerman.

We are looking forward to a big month for events. We will be presenting at The International Jewellery Fair in Sydney and CPA Retail Accounting and Finance Forum in Melbourne. We are also proud to be judging at the 2014 Shopfront Showcase and are a key partner at the NRA Young Retailer of the Year awards and Future of Retail Forum.

Later in September, Brian Walker and Katharina Kuehn will represent Retail Doctor Group and RDG Insights in Amsterdam for the next Ebeltoft Group meeting with our global retail expert partners. This meeting will also include the release of Retail Innovations 10 – our next global study showcasing outstanding retail concepts and stores and we look forward to sharing the results in early October.
